Professional Flooring Installation in Fort Collins
When Fort Collins homeowners decide it's time for new flooring, the conversation usually starts with material. Hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, tile, laminate, carpet: preferences are often set before anyone calls a contractor. Getting the material right matters. The more consequential decisions come down to preparation, subfloor condition, and how new floors integrate with the rest of the space. J. Allen Construction has been installing flooring in homes throughout Northern Colorado since 1998. The standard doesn't change based on project size.
Materials We Work With
Choosing the right flooring material means matching it to actual conditions in your home. Traffic levels, moisture exposure, subfloor type, and room function all affect which material holds up best long-term. We install solid and engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl plank and luxury vinyl tile, ceramic and porcelain tile, laminate, and carpet.
Engineered hardwood handles humidity fluctuations better than solid hardwood, which matters in many homes in this region. LVP performs well in high-traffic spaces and rooms that see moisture. Tile is the right call for bathrooms, laundry rooms, and mudrooms. We walk through the options for your specific spaces so the choice is based on how a product actually performs in that environment, not just how it photographs.
Prep Work Determines the Outcome
Most flooring problems we're brought in to diagnose trace back to shortcuts taken during installation. Subfloor issues left unaddressed, moisture that wasn't evaluated, transitions planned as an afterthought: all of these show up eventually.
Before any flooring goes down, we assess:
- Subfloor condition and whether leveling is required
- Moisture levels, especially in basements and slab-on-grade areas
- Transitions between materials and rooms
- Baseboard and trim work to close the installation correctly
The prep phase isn't visible in the finished product. It determines how the floor performs over the next ten years. Skipping it to move faster is where problems start, and we don't do that.
Flooring and Larger Renovation Projects
A significant share of our flooring work happens alongside broader renovations. Kitchen remodels, bathroom updates, basement renovation projects, and home additions all create logical opportunities to update floors through the rest of the home at the same time.
Managing flooring under one contractor prevents the coordination gaps that come up when separate trades plan their own scopes independently. Transitions stay consistent. Subfloor conditions get addressed before anything goes down. If flooring is on your list alongside other renovation work, combining the scope typically makes sense. We handle flooring-only projects as well.

I was working in Germany when we contracted J. Allen Construction to build our retirement home in Colorado. We selected J. Allen Construction due to their exceptional reputation for quality construction, professional integrity and commitment to maintain schedule. We knew that even though we weren't present to inspect construction, that Jerry Allen would build the house as if it was his own. Over the last 20 years J. Allen Construction has contacted us every year to inspect the house for necessary repairs or upgrades and used his quality construction crew and subs to perform any needed work. We highly recommend J. Allen Construction. Quality, Integrity, and Service are the fundamentals of this company.
